More Delays in this New Year

Just posting a little note, the feature presentation for Saturday January 23rd, “Creature of Destruction”, has been delayed until noon on Sunday January 24th due to me.

Been working on creating a version of the show for television set top boxes and that has been causing many issues with my host (uploading large files, converting 720p versions for flash and portable), but I have figured out how to get everything working and have been busy converting and uploading what needs to be uploaded.

New Years Marathon episodes are coming, and the first regular episode of 2010 is coming up and will hopefully all be up by the time we do the next episode.

We’ll see you then.

New Years is Delayed

Delaying the New Years Live Marathon for a couple of days simply because I was up way to late partying on New Years Eve and need to get some sleep.

It’ll now be on Sunday, January 3rd @ 10am with a bonus movie.

Until then, in the words of the esteemed Mr. Lobo

Giving the show a unique identity

It’s getting time for a change once again.
That’s my problem, isn’t it?
Changing things all the time.
Maybe that’s why this show doesn’t have a set identity.
Oh, well. I’m going to attempt to give it one.
Just over a year and a half ago, I decided to take the production of the show into Second Life because it offered me advantages to what I can do in the real world.
In the real world, I make enough cash to scrape by but not enough to invest in making a set, don’t have a car to go to any of the interesting places in the area to broadcast, and don’t really have a lot of space for a fixed set. But in the virtual world, I can easily find enough space to build a set and can find plenty of interesting places to visit.
Unfortunately, producing the show in Second Life wasn’t easy on my first generation Mac Mini, and my back up plan didn’t always work the way I wanted it, so I had to move back into the real world.
Then, this summer, my Mac Mini died on me and I decided to replace it.
After receiving it, I started playing around with CamTwist again and was amazed by some of the new functionality that they added which would allow me to to a more professional live stream of the show.
So I started doing that again, and that is what I’ve been doing recently.
But the desire to do the show in Second Life didn’t completely leave me, and I decided to see how well my newer Mac Mini would handle it.
I got much better performance from SL itself, the lip-sync for the voice chat worked far better than it ever did on my previous set ups, and I even had enough power to handle a screen capture program or a streaming set up as well.
But, I still wasn’t sure how well it would work, plus I couldn’t record at a decent quality and broadcast my SL window at the same time.
Then I came up with and idea on how I could do the show and on Thursday, December 17th 2009, I decided to give broadcasting the show using Second Life for the host segments a try.
It seemed to work pretty well from a technical standpoint, just need to get used to doing it, and I think it is something that I could do again with it getting better over time.
At the beginning of the year, starting with the New Years Day Marathon, we will be starting Season Five of the Monster Movie Show and from now on (if I don’t change my mind and decide to completely change things again) I will be producing the host segments of the show from entirely within the virtual world, and maybe even do some live shows within Second Life.
It might be fun, and I hope you enjoy.

Thanksgiving is coming

Well, it’s almost Thanksgiving.

So, it’s time to begin another holiday tradition for this here web show.

Since none of the hosts of this program particularly like hanging out with the extended family in a very tiny house where there is no escape in case one of them is really a zombie, there will a really big show on Turkey Day.

One tradition that horror hosts past performed on Thanksgiving was a Thanksgiving Day Marathon where they would be either working all day showing the movies and interrupting for the commercial breaks, or someone at the station would show the episodes that were recorded for the holiday.

But since there aren’t nearly as many hosts on network television any longer, and most of the current networks that have hosts have their own plans for Thanksgiving, that is a tradition that has withered on the vine.

Plus, the few hosts that do their shows only on the internet, or at least use the internet to distribute their shows, don’t feel the desire to run a marathon on any holiday, much less Thanksgiving.

Well, we here at the Monster Movie Show are going to change that, kinda.

Starting at 10am EST on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 26th) we will be showing four (maybe more) movies with Salem Storm performing the hosting duties in between the films.

Lint has also hosted 3 cartoons for the holiday, and they will also be shown between the movies.

We’re hoping that it will be a fun time, and that as many people can join us as possible for our first, true, everything working as it should, LIVE, Monster Movie Show marathon.

We’ll see you then.
