It’s getting time for a change once again.
That’s my problem, isn’t it?
Changing things all the time.
Maybe that’s why this show doesn’t have a set identity.
Oh, well. I’m going to attempt to give it one.
Just over a year and a half ago, I decided to take the production of the show into Second Life because it offered me advantages to what I can do in the real world.
In the real world, I make enough cash to scrape by but not enough to invest in making a set, don’t have a car to go to any of the interesting places in the area to broadcast, and don’t really have a lot of space for a fixed set. But in the virtual world, I can easily find enough space to build a set and can find plenty of interesting places to visit.
Unfortunately, producing the show in Second Life wasn’t easy on my first generation Mac Mini, and my back up plan didn’t always work the way I wanted it, so I had to move back into the real world.
Then, this summer, my Mac Mini died on me and I decided to replace it.
After receiving it, I started playing around with CamTwist again and was amazed by some of the new functionality that they added which would allow me to to a more professional live stream of the show.
So I started doing that again, and that is what I’ve been doing recently.
But the desire to do the show in Second Life didn’t completely leave me, and I decided to see how well my newer Mac Mini would handle it.
I got much better performance from SL itself, the lip-sync for the voice chat worked far better than it ever did on my previous set ups, and I even had enough power to handle a screen capture program or a streaming set up as well.
But, I still wasn’t sure how well it would work, plus I couldn’t record at a decent quality and broadcast my SL window at the same time.
Then I came up with and idea on how I could do the show and on Thursday, December 17th 2009, I decided to give broadcasting the show using Second Life for the host segments a try.
It seemed to work pretty well from a technical standpoint, just need to get used to doing it, and I think it is something that I could do again with it getting better over time.
At the beginning of the year, starting with the New Years Day Marathon, we will be starting Season Five of the Monster Movie Show and from now on (if I don’t change my mind and decide to completely change things again) I will be producing the host segments of the show from entirely within the virtual world, and maybe even do some live shows within Second Life.
It might be fun, and I hope you enjoy.
